December Film And Music Playlist Part 1

So I was suckered into going to see that Horror Fest(8 Films To Die For) by those damn commericals that ran on tv since Halloween. I know...I know...what was I thinking? I knew the films would blow yet I went anyway. Namely cos I wanted to see Nacho(Aftermath) Cerda’s new full length film The Abandoned on the big screen. So on Saturday Nov 18th I and my buddy Devon ventured to the Crown Marquis Cinema in Trumbull CT to catch 3 of the 8 Films To Die for. First up The Abandoned. We were pretty pysched to see this one. Though I had my doubts about just how good this was going to be. Well, I came away a split opinion overall. I liked the atomsphere, Xavi Giménez' (The Machinist) cinematography, Russian shot locations, the rather good FX, and a surprisingly harsh screen in which an abusive father tries to feed his infant son to a pack of boars. What I disliked about the film almost immediately was the lead female actress(terrible acting), the story itself was rather average and typically looked and played out like the majority of the more recent modern American horror films. Lot’s of flashbacks, shaky camera editing, and music video lighting. I’m being honest when I say I wasn’t expecting Aftermath nor a Genesis. Though I was hoping Nacho’s long awaited “ghost story” would be more along the lines of classics like The Haunting or Burnt Offerings. I’m not even sure I would go as far as to say this is a “ghost story”. No, these characters are haunted by their undiscovered past not by a malevolent supernatural spirit...unfortunately. Nevertheless I can appreciate Nacho’s take on a “ghost story”. I still have faith in Nacho as a director and I hope the film does well cos I believe Nacho is a film or two away from the masterpiece we all know he can deliver.

The Abandoned trailer:

Penny Dreadful, was well...D
READFUL. Not in the good sense. No sir, the second film of the day was a dud. I’ll spare you an entire write up. Basically a young women suffering from anxiety and panic attacks accompanies her therapists on a retreat to the mountains to further advance her therapy sessions. They pick up a hitchhiker, hitchhiker is a crazed killer offing the therapist and a few others that get in way. Girl is trapped in car for the majority of the movie as the killer taunts and terrorizes her. The ending is a mess as I’d no idea how the killer actually knows the chick he’s been tormenting? We were thinking it may have been the girls mother. Honestly, who cares. Avoid! Oh, there’s a wasted cameo from Micheal Barryman(The Hills Have Eyes, Weird Science). Penny Dreadful was bad, but Grave Dancers was putrid! My god what an atrocity. I’m so glad we didn’t send money on this one. Yeah, we snuck in. Again, no way am I going into detail about this one. 3 friends attend a funeral for a close friend get drunk go pay a visit to his gravesite that same evening. Well these jackasses find a note on a miscellaneous gravestone recite the words on it and dance around on 3-4 nearby graves. In the day’s that follow each friend is visted by the nasty spirits that inhabited those graves. Yeah, sounds pretty gay. Well, it’s just that. Everything in this movie sucks. Cheesy actors, cheesy dialogue, amateurish FX and CGI. I swear it look’s like that borrowed the masks for some of the ghosts from Spencer Gifts. It’s a mess. You know how bad those Sci-Fi Channel movie are!? Well, this one that made it on the big screen. The only way I made it through this movie is cos my buddy Paul showed up and shit talked on the movie out loud. Had the a whole bunch of us cracking up. Also I should mention the projector kept on fucking up the film making it “jump” alot and causing “spilt screen” helping add to the absurdity. Normally I would be pissed at such events but I applauded in this case.

Calvaire (The Ordeal)- I’m rare
ly disappointed with a modern French movie. They always seem so well in tune with the human condition of the average person in dire and or extreme situations. Lo and behold Calvaire is a story of traveling entertainer falls prey to a disturbed recluse. Think Deliverance and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I really hate to give away too much when it comes to film write ups or reviews but perhaps what I’m about to write will be taken as a warning. So a heads up, if you will, cos this film does contain male on male rape and bestiality. Calvaire.

Calvaire
(The Ordeal Trailer):

Feast-I really didn’t expect to en
joy this one as much as did. Yeah, it’s cheesy and the acting sux(especially Henry Rollins...no, I’m not shitting you, he’s in it) but man this film is a lot of fun. Lot’s of gore and black humor. How can you go wrong with a movie that show’s a monster spew his monster goo in some chicks mouth. Brilliant shit! B-movie monster movie but grade A entertainment.

Feast Trailer:

Don’t Answer The Phone-Finally! I think everybody had that shitty cut-up R
ihno dvd that came out a few years ago. Well, this is certainly the version we’ve been waiting for(well some of us). To be fair though, this is not an outstanding movie by any means. The camera shots are less then innovative(though great use of a sleazy of late 1970s Hollywood Boulevard) The acting is horrible(check out the trailer) but oh so funny. Kirk Smith (Nicholas Worth) acting is skills are anything but horrible and pretty much saves the film and should be the only reason you must see this film is cos of him. Kirk Smith is a stocky, balding Vietnam vet photographer living in California, who spends most of his free time raping, mutilating and strangling beautiful young women, all because of his troubled childhood and an extreme hatred of the opposite sex. Trust me this guy is very misogynistic! Loads of nudity with plenty of lowbrow sleaze. Common now you know you gotta see it.

Don’t Answer The Phone clip:

Land Of The Minotaur-Hot damn a 70's devil worship flick starring Donald Pleasance and Peter Cushing! This is pretty crude but I can’t help but like it. I mean how can you not like a film about hooded Satanists who worship a half bull/half human idol!? The nostrail smoke breathing half bull/half hu
man idol is bad ass and even talks...hahaha. See I told ya this was cool. The story you ask? Very simply we are introduced to three young people go on an archeological find in a remote area in Greece and uncover a cult that worship and make sacrifices to a Minotaur. Pretty unimaginative stuff but like I said it has a certain charm. Like for instance Luan Peters, one of the sexiest of the British horror film heroines (she had small parts in Hammer’s LUST FOR A VAMPIRE and TWINS OF EVIL) gets to wear hot pants and screams a lot. Man, this girl is fine. Wait till you she her and her ass! Also of interest to fans of the greek film Island Of Death is the appearance of Robert Behling (or Bob Belling) who played the down right fucked(but oh so loveable)Christopher in Island Of Death as well as Jessica Dublin who played Patricia(you may remember her getting pissed on by Christopher) both make an appearance in Land Of The Minotaur.Which by the way came out a year later(1976)after Island Of Death. Great score by Brian Eno too.

Howabout the NOISE!

I thought I'd add an industrail/noise/power electronic blog to the MF blogspot. I've put up plenty of metal the last few weeks. So anyway, what your looking at is some live I took pix of the Grunt/Control/Taint/Bloodyminded tour that took place back in the winter of 04. Thought it would alot cooler to share these pix with you instead of doing reviews etc.
All pix from the Midway Cafe in Boston 3-29-04.(In order:Control/Grunt/Bloody Minded/Taint)

If all goes as planned I'll still be featuring an interview with The Rita(Canadian pure sound influenced by Italian Giallo violence & harsh noise cassette culture). Extreme, dirty, low-end electronic crust is what The Rita is all about. One of the best out there today. Doesn't hurt Sam is huge Euro cult fan as well.

DOOMED MAGAZINE/ASHLEY WOOD

I'm willing to bet a whole lot of you grew up reading horror comic magazines like Creepy, Eerie, Heavy Metal, Vampirellla, Dracula Lives, Vampire Tales etc etc. Well, I did too. Through out the 90's up until now there had been a few attempts to revive the the "horror comic magazine". Nothing really lasting beyond a few issues and certainly never reaching the status of the afore mentioned books. Doomed though certainly has the potiential and with a 4th issue due out real soon I think this book may very well join the ranks of the classic horror comic magazine. The appeal really in Doomed is the stunning cover artwork as well as interior work of artist Ashley Wood. Better I let the artwork speak for it's self...

PILEDRIVER:THE REAL STORY ABOUT BOSTON?

So, according to Piledrivers Myspace blog this is what really happen last sat night in Boston...

PILEDRIVER - BONED IN BOSTON
Current mood: disappointed
Category: News and Politics

PILEDRIVER - BONED IN BOSTON
MegaHails to all our minions of the Metal Inquisition!
First of all, we have to say that we had a BLAST ripping faces off on the Piledrivin' Destructour, with the righteous honour of sharing stages with the pummeling powerhouse that is DESTRUCTOR! All of 'em; NYC, Montreal, Quebec City... all were bludgeoning examples of bombastic ol'skool METAL!!!
However...
Boston was another story... and what a story... let's deconstruct this debacle chronologically, K?
The night before in NYC was a bust in a way... I was ill, the crowd was tiny (but deliciously demented!) and we all took a loss and hoped we would get enough gas money in Boston the following night to get us back home. So, we arrived at the dusty n' dilapitaded Elk's Lodge in Boston ahead of most of the pack, and set in to get set up. Upon greeting us with a look of impending doom the so-called 'promoter' of the show Robin (the Bird Brain Of Boston) Goodhue proceeded to demonstrate his lack of skills at reading and executing a contract by not providing a single thing he signed for, not the least of which was our money. We (and Destructor) had taken a big loss the night before in NYC because the promoter there didn't understand how to advertise to get people out to a show, and then, already in debt and hungry, we hear we're not to get paid much again, let alone all the other provisions of the contracts. Frustrated, we decided to go outside, have a smoke, and figure out what's what... not the least of which was the subject of always taking it up the ass because these two-bit promoters have no clue that they need to advertise and we end up paying to play to crowds of ten... We've had enough of going in debt and starving while trying to perform up to snuff. Besides, this is the music BUSINESS, and a contract's a contract... do we finally put our foot down and stand our ground for a change? Do we tell him he's the last asshole to bone us for a gig? Or do we do what we always do, and take another one up the ass for the fans, and suck on our socks for nutrients and fuel?
Outside the Elks havin' a butt While trying to figure out how we're gonna get our freakshow on without a proper dressing room and how we're gonna pay for the gas to get us to Montreal, we spot a metal-lookin' red-tressed maiden circling around our perimeter, analyzing us... turns out that the vivacious and hilarious Tracy had a mission to track us down for a photo for her man Tilley! (Or was it Tulley???) As she ran in for a 'shawpy' to make a sign for the picture, we continued our discussions on the debacle at hand behind the scenes. At this point a wonderful couple from Newhaven (sorry.. our sleep deprived brains have misplaced your names... please send us yer e-mails, eh!!!) stepped up and made our day with their Pile-centric evil devotions, and won our black hearts forever. 'TrifficTracy returns, and we make mayhem with takin' pic's, and have some great conversations with our new friends. During our yakkin', they ALL ask what the hell we're doing "playing this old barn that no-one's EVER seen a REAL band in? Why the HELL aren't you playing up the street at the PERFECT place for you Piledrivin Destructor types... The Middle East???" We replied that it might have something to do with the fact that we don't live in Boston, and aren't too hip on what's hip in Boston, not bein' FROM Boston, so if that's what's hip in Boston mussbe what's hip in Boston... so, ballsy metalmama that she is, Tracy drags us on over to the Middle East (sez she knows someone) to see if we can slide the show over there if there's some local 'bump-able' bands playin', since we ain't gettin' paid at Robin's hands, and there will prolly only be like 12 people there anyway... why not try to get in to a proper venue and take advantage of an average walk-in of 150, plus the 12 people from the Elk's? Turned out that Rev. Horton Heat was playing that night, thus, not bump-able, BUT... WE WILL BE TALKING WITH THE CLUB ABOUT A PILEDRIVER/DESTRUCTOR APPEARANCE AT the MIDDLE EAST club IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!! So... Lobo takes in some apparently quite good Middle East dinner fare while we smoke n' yuk it up outside... Yup... having a great time with our new friends in a great city, knowing that if we blow off tonight's show to show some spine and respect for ourselves and to show that birdbrained promoter ya can't just shit on a band and expect 'em to play, and even still, because we're decent people, we would compromise yet again for the sake of the fans that drove from so far, that that we'd accept $200 to do the show that night.
We head back to the Elk's Lodge to see if birdbrain likes the plan. When we arrive, Kinky and I are then informed that we can't have 10 names on the guest list. We look at each other blankly... um... we don't HAVE a guestlist... we don't KNOW ANYONE in Boston, so how could we invite anyone onto our guestlist even if we HAD one that night. In goes Kinky to find out what's up with that. Upon his return he tells me that, "yup, some guy passed himself off as a band member and put "smegmadude plus 10" onto the guest list". By this point we were getting pissed off, so I grabbed the 'sharpie' from the table and blotted out the name saying "we don't know a single person in Boston, let alone this 'smegmadude', so how could we have a guest list, and where's Robin, we want to talk to him about tonight's show", implying that there would still be a show. The mascara'd doughboy behind the table who looked like he'd just shit his pants nervously pointed into the main hall to the little birdbrain on his cellphone. As we approached him to tell him when he finished his call that we wanted to discuss what's what, that we would compromise and do the set if he could come up with at least $200 for gas n' food, and if he could rig up some kind of curtain to make a jerry-rigged dressing room' at the side of the stage... then while he's still on his phone, trying to avoid us, he starts a scaredy-cat walk/run leading us all around the place, then outside, then he's nearly actually running up the block (ironically enough with the Middle East's signage in the background)... we give up following him, shaking our heads wondering "what the fuck is UP with that dude? Fuck him, let's not wait for him to come back, let's just go... we've got just enough gas to get us to Montreal and we can make up our losses there with a real crowd! We should be be back here at the Middle East in a few months anyways..." So, there we were 'Boned In Boston', BUT, with plans to return and make right for all of our fans that were so let down.
While we're yacking with fans out front of the Elk, sayin' our sorry's n' goodbye's, a cruiser pulls up, and a coupla cops lookin' ready for battle head for the front door. Bein' a nice guy at heart, I call out to them that they need to go by the rear door... they nod and thank me and head for same. Once they enter, we wonder if all of this contractual starvation frustration was moot, perhaps they were here to shut it down due to noise complaints or something? Moments later, the door opens, out come the cops with that birdbrained Robin, who's crying like a little girl "that's him right there officers, boo hoo, sniffle, boo hoo hoo" and they head down the steps towards us. Kinky and I look at each other witha befuddled "whaaa???" The officers have been informed that we were 'menacing' and 'acting aggressively' and that the wimps 'feared for their safety' and that we were being escorted from the facility as 'they don't want you here, they fear for their safety, you have to go'. We explained to him how we were fucked for our SIGNED contract, that he was renegging on the deal, and that we were only chasing him around to let him know that we would do the show if he could come up with $200 because we didn't want to let down the fans, but we needed gas and food. After the cop got the whole story from us, and agreed on how it was birdbrain who was in the wrong here, he stomped back to the birdbrain and let him have it, "Look! You CAN'T do business like this! This has gone on long enough! You can't shaft people and expect us to come and save you every time!" These comments led us to believe that this has happened with this birdbrained Robin asshole before. The cop continued the birdbrain-verbal-beat-down with "Some time you're going to call us, and there will be something major going on, and we won't be able to respond to your call for an hour or more... by the time we get to you, you could be beat to shit and we won't be in position to do ANYTHING for you! You can't DO this! You can't sign contracts and not honor them!" I turned to birdbrain and said "So there's no room for compromise for tonight?" He answered "No, I'm sorry. I didn't want any trouble, you have to go". I retorted that WE were the ones not looking for any trouble, that it was HIM that caused it all! At this point the officers escorted us to the sidewalk and asked us to leave town.
So there you have it - PILEDRIVER - BONED IN BOSTON.
The LAST thing any band wants to do is bail on a show, but, sometimes, shit happens and it's outta your hands. Especially when two-bit-panty-waist-chicken-shit-losers pretend to be promoters and think they can just shit on musician's heads and call the cops on you when you're righteously indignated, angered, and completely ripped off due to their incompetence.
None of 'em understand that the base of promoter is PROMOTE!!! You can fill a room fool of free ice cold beer, but if no-one knows it's there, it ain't gonna get drunk!!!!! Baaaah!!!! Look for us at the Middle East!
Boston and area Piledriver fans, please accept our sincerest apologies, please bear with us, and please come out when we're there, for our personal apologies, and a killer show in a proper venue!!! If schedules allow, it will be the same Destructor/Piledriver show ya WOULDA seen!!! If you drove hours to Boston to see us and were disappointed, please know that we feel horrible about all this, and vow make it up to you somewhere/somehow... the Middle East looks like the best bet so far... check www.sofa-q.com/shows.html and www.myspace.com/theexaltedpiledriver for updates.
Oh, and if you happen to come across the Bird-Brain-Of-Boston -Robin Goodhue... Seig-Pile him for us!!!
All our blood,
Pile and the Band

Impetigo Interview 2/2/92

Speed Metal Hell Weekend...not so much!

When I checked my mail before I left for Boston on saturday afternoon I was greeted with a package from Mark(Impertigo). The re-release of ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE(out now on RAZORBACK RECORDS) had reached me! Fuck, I was so psyched. Thanx again Mark. Seemed like things were off to great start for a weekend I was to witness Piledriver, Destructor, Psycho, and Celtic Frost for a second time this year.

Made it to my buddy Devon's place around 5:30. Perfect! We had time to catch a bite to eat and then head over to show which we thought was starting at 8pm. Well, we eat and knocked back some beers and made our way to the show. I knew something was up when we got closer cos I didn't hear shit. Way to quite. Walked to the side entrance and was informed by No Life Jay that the show was over!? "You got to be fucken kidding" I believe what was issued out of Devon's mouth. Nobody was kidding. The show started at 5pm. It was 9:45 according to my cell phone. Destructor had just ended and the show was over. Your probably asking "What about Piledriver". Well, from what I heard Piledriver did show but asked for more money than I guess what was originally agreed apoun!? I also hear one of the memebers of Piledriver was actually punched by the promoter? I can't confirm of deny any of this it just the "word" going around.

So much for that show.

Celtic Frost was again excellent on Sunday night(Nov 5th). The only difference between their setlist this night and when I saw em' in NYC back in Sept was they played Mesmerized instead of Inner Sanctum. Pictures here Return To The Pit

What happen to Sunn 0)))? I thought they had the opening slot along with the horrible Goatwhore. Really, this band is crap.

Time to wrap up. I scanned of an old Impetigo interview with Stevo from 1992. The interview was conducted my my good friend Nihilist(Abazagorath/In Memorium/STAHLMANTEL) for his zine back in the day. Mike, bro, your gonna kill me but I totally forget the name of the zine...sorry! Threw this up here as a tribute to Impetigo and the re-release of ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE. Enjoy! I hope for alot, you are seeing this interview for the first time.

Interviews from Mental Funeral #1

Here's a select few interviews from MF 1. Originally MF was suppose to be nothing more than a newsletter/mini-zine cos I still had plans to continue on with Children Of Caine zine. I did 2 issues under the C.O.C. name and had a 3rd ready to go before I pulled the plug and decided to go with MF as my main zine. I have alot of interviews that never got published in C.O.C. Some have shown up in MF and I'll probably add some to this blogsite. Anyway, enjoy the interviews with Warsore, ATM, and Mermaid In A Manhole from MF 1. Warsore has called it day, ATM is still going I think?(can't find Ryan's Mypace page!?), and I'm willing to bet Mermaid In A Manhole is dead too? Anybody confirm?

Plus, chilling shorts and trailers, dreadful prizes for best costumes, and ghoulish surprises!

Complete lineup in order -- all films on 35mm, not from DVD!

LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT - 1972, dir. Wes Craven, 1h24m
Before Freddy's nightmares... before even the hills had eyes... Wes Craven scared -- nay, disturbed -- the bejesus out of us with this brutal slasher/revenge story. Hell hath no fury like grieving parents exacting their revenge on the sickos who kidnapped and murdered their daughters after a rock concert... As its legendary tagline warns, "To avoid fainting, keep repeating 'It's only a movie...It's only a movie...'"

EQUINOX - 1970, dir. Jack Woods, 1h20m
Things go weird for a group of carefree teenagers on a mountain picnic when they run into a creepy old scientist who's been conjuring monsters from an ancient book bound in human skin. Yes, THAT book bound in human skin. No doubt the inspiration for Sam Raimi's cult classic EVIL DEAD, this long overlooked sci-fi horror gem also features early special effects work by Dennis Muren, who went on to win a bunch of Academy Awards for his work on STAR WARS, E.T. and TERMINATOR. Plus, Frank Boers, Jr, aka Herb from WKRP in Cincinnati and "Supernatural" Color by De Luxe!

NIGHT OF THE COMET- 1984, dir. Thom Eberhardt, 1h35m
Scores of post-apocalypse films came out of the '80s but few were as good as NIGHT OF THE COMET. Two high school girls wake up one morning and find that almost everyone else in Los Angles has been turned to dust by a comet that passed through the earth's atmosphere. Well, everyone except some zombie survivors, a radio deejay, and some scientists living in a secret underground government installation. Did we mention one of the girls survives because she spent the night in a movie theater projection booth? Spooky.

VAMPIRE CIRCUS - 1972, dir. Robert William Young, 1h24m
Come one, come all to the greatest blood-show on earth! When this circus comes to town, creepy clowns and carnys running afoul are the least of the villagers worries in this campy Hammer horror romp. Turns out the members of this troupe are ALL blood-sucking freaks!

THE GATE - 1987, dir. Tibor Takács, 1h25m
When an old tree is removed from their backyard two teenagers find something odd: a giant hole that turns out to be a gateway for evil nasties to pass from their world into ours. In fact, we're pretty sure that's how the film's star Stephen Dorf made it here.

NEAR DARK - 1987, dir. Kathryn Bigelow, 1h35m
Just when you're praying for daylight, we'll end our marathon with this horror/western/action cult fave about a young cowboy who unwittingly becomes a vampire after receiving the old eternal blood kiss from the strange new gal in town. As he slowly makes the turn from farm boy to creature of the night, he reluctantly trades his spurs for fangs and joins her "family," a marauding pack of blood suckers on an endless search for food and a dark place to hide.

HALLOWEEN HORROR MOVIE MARATHON

Your's truly will be at this event! I'm gonna document it for MF 6. In-depth write up's and plenty of pictures.

Playlist:

GORE-From Second Side. Killer Czech grindcore! This is their new one.
Morbid Saint-Spectrum Of Death.Underrated thrash from the mid 80's. Total Dark Angel and Kreator feel.
Eternal Majesty-Wounds Of Hatred And Slavery. Really good French black metal.
Candlemass- Ancient Dreams. One of my fave doom albums ever!
Rotting Christ- Non Serviam. Sadly never got
the attention it so deserves. 1994's follow up to They Mighty Contract. The production ceratinly could of been better plus it can out on the notorious Unisound Records. Over looking those 2 aspects this album is filled to the brim with excellent songs and memorable riffs. Perhaps the last true black metal record from these greek's. I haven't liked em' since signing to Century Media!
Cianide-The Dying Truth. Death/doom from 1992! Don't make it like this anymore. Tell me the likes of Winter, Hellhammer, and Celtic Frost weren't an influence on this classic. One of my all time favorite bands and albums from the early 90's. Still going strong too! Cianide kills.
SewerGoddess-The Dirt Behind the Daydream (demo). So what do get when you mix Psychosadistic Haterapist, Manes (demos), Mordor, Whitehouse, Nicole 12, early S.P.K, Con-Dom, Brighter Death Now, BrainBombs, physical and social degeneration, true crime, urban terrorism? You get the awesome SewerGoddess demo. Look for the review in MF 6.
Clestial Season-Forever Scarlet Passion. In 1993 C.S. came o
ut with this really good gothic doom death debut. No doubt influenced by the first couple of My Dying Bridge releases. I think it still holds it's own. I'm sure this is way out of print but one worth tracking down.

CIANIDE circa 1991! Did you know I was on the thanx list on 1994's release A Descent Into Hell!? Well, I was. See if you can find me.

The UNISOUND version! I'm pretty sure sombody re-released recently?

CINEMA SEWER

Dead World #5-Yes sir, I was a big fan of the original series. There's been alot of not so hot attempts to revive the series. I'm happy to report though with this new series out through Image Comics they finally got it right. Original writer Gary Reed is on board and covers by original penciler Vince Locke!

DEADWORLD

Warren Ellis Blackgas #3-Zombies!!! Way gory. See write up and covers at Avatar Press.

AVATAR

Fell #5
-More Ellis! Fell is Warren Ellis's ongoing experiment with the comics format, an attempt to tell complete stories in single issues that sell for $1.99 US and don't leave you feeling like you got less than your money's worth. So far all the stories have been gripping and meaty, with brutal and shocking twist endings. By far my fave comic at the moment.

Upcomming MF 6 Interviews.

Chuck Keller(OFC) live from the Wetlands NYC 1995. Letter from Pete Helmkamp(OFC) 7/25/1995.

One of the best US death/thrash/black metal bands from the late 80's till the mid 90's was Order From Chaos. Man, I loved those guy’s! I was lucky enough to catch em’ live 2x during the mid 90's.OFC were ahead of their time both musically and conceptually. OFC influence can be heard today especially in the “War Metal” genre. Spawning bands like Bestial Warlust, Conqueror, Axis Of Advance, and Revenge. Well, former OFC members Chuck Keller and Mike Miller have since gone on to form Ares Kingdom after the split of OFC. The Ares Kingdom debut “Return To Dust” is now out and let me tell you it’s been getting a lot of play around here...unrelenting Infernal Thrashing Death Metal!

I just sent an interview over to Chu
ck for MF 6.

More info on Ares Kingdom can be found at
ARES KINGDOM

I also wanted to point out that bassist/vocalist Alex Blume was a member of the rather obscure early 90's death/black metal band Nepenthe. Nepenthe hailed form the same state(Kansas) as OFC and certainly was an influenece on the Nepenthe sound. Track down Nepenthe’s awesome 1993 debut demo ‘The Conqueror Worm” and see if you agree.

Nepenthe Discography:

The Conqueror Worm Demo,1993
Ligeia Single, 1995

Live at Howard's Demo,1995
In Death Overshadow Thee advance EP, 1997

Changed their name to Ligeia
in 1996.

Torche blew me away with their debut that came out at the end of 05. HEAVY shit! Think Black Sabbath, Hellhammer, and Melvins. After seeing them live(ear’s ringing for 2 day’s) at CBGB’s earlier this summer I knew I had get em’ in MF 6. I got the interview back from frontman Steve a few months back. Guy’s a total death/thrash fanatic! An Autopsy fan at that too!
TORCHE

Fucken Axegrinder! How many of you old farts out there remember buying the Prophecy Of Doom/Axegrinder split back in the day? I still have my cassette! Axegrinder played music heavily influenced by Amebix, and other crust/punk rock bands that had been experimenting with metal riffs and sounds. I alway’s t
hought they had a Bolt Thrower vibe about them which is probably why when grindcore and death metal became more popular they seemed to find their audience. I’ve been a big fan since the early 90's and was psyched to find a Myspace page for the band. Lo and behold I’m on the page and stumble across a comment from another Axegrinder fan by the name of Chris Eagan. Chris mentions he has an unpublished interview with Axegrinder from 1989. Holy fuck! Well, I got ahold of Chris and the rest is history cos Chris was cool enough to grant me permission to finally print the interview in MF 6. Mondo Thanks to Chris Eagan of (now defunct) 'Wake Up or Die!' 'zine & 'Desperate Attempt Records'.

Although not as nearly old a
s the Axegrinder interview is the one with Marco of Atrax Morgue fame that I’ve been sitting on since 96. My good friend Todd from the excellent Transcendent Device/Marspiter projects conducted the interview with Marco. Todd befriended Marco while both where in NYC. Marco had come to states to play a show with Bloodyminded, and Deathpile(which Todd was part of at that time). Cool interview in which Marco talks about an operation he had just undergone at the time and the nurse who cared for him.

So there you have it
Ares Kingdom, Torche, Axegrinder, and Atrax Morgue thus far in MF 6. Plenty more to come!

Listen up. All pictures and artwork are the real deal from my personal collection. I have no problem sharing but for godsakes ask first!
