Let's talk about reviews for sec. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the amount of releases I have yet to go through. I have shit from 3-4 ago waiting to be reviewed. I'm thinking I should just post older reviews on the MF Blogspot and reserve the newer stuff for print in MF 6. Don't be suprised to see it happen. I hate the idea of doing something like that but to save time and space I think it's a good idea at this point. I don't forsee reviews ever being posted consistently here. At least I hope not. MF is not and will never a webzine!

Rudy Ray Moore(Dolemite) Passes

"It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a true entertainment legend and friend, Rudy Ray Moore, on Sunday, October 19, 2008 due to complications from diabete" taken from the official Rudy Ray Moore website http://www.shockingimages.com/dolemite/main.php

Although I heard and knew the name Dolemite in passing it wasn't until the early-mid 90's that I really took an interest in Rudy Ray Moore's character. Thanks in part to an interview that appeared in Mark Jason Murray's excellent and defiantly missed fanzine Shocking Images. Not only did Jason's interview open my eye's to Dolemite, but the whole Blackexpoliation genre itself. A few years back apoun accuring Dolemite finally on DVD, I screend the movie for friends. They absolutely loved the film. What will alway's stick out in mind about that viewing experience of Dolemite with friends then, were the comments made by my buddies. "I didn't know black people called each other the "N" word back then. Hahahhaha. Yeah, I said " Where do you think it all started".

Below is part 2 of the Dolemite interview from issue 4 of Shocking Images(circa 1994). I swore I had the first part from issue 3? Can't seem to locate it though.

GERARD DAMIANO, 80, DIES 10/25/08

It's been years since I've actually sat down and watched either Deep Throat or The Devil In Miss Jones. I know I always like 'The Devil...' better. I use to listen to the soundtrack regularly when was re-issued on cd. The Story Of Joanna features the one and only Jamie Gillis, I'd have to rank that one as Gerard's best as well. Waterpower...did he or didn't he? Mr. Damiano refused to acknowledge his involvemnet in the making the film. Yet his name does appear on the credits.

Below is a scanned off interview from Book One of Flesh And Blood from 1998 with Gerard Damiano. I believe it to be from 93/94? Pretty insightful one it is.

Check out the link below for more info on Gerard's passing and career...

Dracula Vol 1 No. 1 1971

I'm having a hard time finding info on this awesome UK comic series from the early 70's. I know it ran 12 issues with low distribution making these suckers quite rare. Ebay has them listed at $14 each. #2 being the most rare. These were originally published in Spain in 1971 for distribution in England. Dracula editions measure 9 inches x 11-3/4 inches. Note: Does not include poster (only issue one included a poster.) All in full-color. Got the series from a buddy years ago. Seems his Godfather had them since they came out way back when. I'll defiantly be scanning off more. Each issue has 3 stories. Below is part 1 Of Wolff. Great Conan knock off, yes!?

Destruction Fest 2 10-18-08

I entertained the thought of not writing anything for this blog and just posting pictures. The show has been discussed on various other web boards already. Honestly, I don't have anything new to to contribute to the thoughts and feelings of those who attended the show have already relayed. There where technical difficulties, fights, cops, bar service being cut off early, and a 15 minute Profanatica set. Oh, and the weather sucked and I didn't get home till almost 5am! On a positive note, beer was cheap and I got a chance to catch up with old and new faces.

Profanatica R.I.P. The Palid Savior cult to rise soon!
